He is a real life hero. Before World War II, Sir Nicholas Winton saved 669 mostly Jewish Czechoslovakian children destined for the Nazi death camps. This rescue operation was held in between the years 1938-1939 known as the Czech Kindertransport that brought these children to the safety of Great Britain.
His heroic efforts ever remained unknown before 1988, when his wife Grete found a 1939 scrapbook that had complete list of children’s names with their photos. This clip is from the BBC Programme “That’s Life” aired in 1988 where Sir Nicholas Winton is sitting in the audience with the Jewish Czechoslovakian people who he saved during the holocaust 50 years before.
